Motion Dynamics is a leader in the manufacture of neuro-sub-assemblies. This includes steerable catheters, "pull-wire" assemblies and other neurological components. We use our StarCut Tube machines to precisely cut key components.

We offer a tube extender for loading tube stock of up to 80" (6'8") You can still use the tube extension to load stock up to 80" or 6'8".

The SL has a rock-solid platform for cutting (the SL uses a base made of mineral casts). These machines provide the highest precision with contour cutting accuracy better than +/-5 um. The latest Monaco USP laser, or the fiber laser, allows for precise cutting of any type of metal or polymer.

Some things are extremely obvious. The size of the laser "generator," on a fiber laser, is much smaller than that of a traditional CO2 resonanceator. The fiber laser is made up of banks of diodes. Each module can hold 600 to 1,500W. Multiple modules can be spliced together in order to create the final powered-resonator. This module is typically about the same size and shape as a small filing box. Fiber-optic cable channels the light generated and amplifies it. The light is still the same quality and power when it exits the fibre-optic conduit. It is then adjusted for the type and focus of the material to be cut.

How accurate is laser cutting

Fabricators might first think of high-speed laser cutting when they think about fiber laser cutting technology. While this might be true in some cases, it is not the case when it comes tube cutting. It is more about the time required to process a tube so it meets specifications than the actual cutting speed.

How do you compensate for that? Traditionally, you are going to come down and touch the face with a sensor that marks the contact point. The tube is then rotated, and the opposite side of the tube is touched. That gives the control an idea of just how bowed the tube is. This method is accurate and can ensure those through-holes work out for the application. But keep in mind that each time a rotation of the tube occurs, the ability to deliver very high tolerances is reduced.

Due to the high power needed to create a CO2 Laser, it is less efficient than a fiber-laser. Also, the large chillers that are required to make CO2 lasers work require more power. You are using less power due to the fiber laser's wall plug efficiency exceeding 40 percent. This means that you also use less of your floor space in high-demand areas.

You can choose between 2D or 3D laser cutting technology, which allows you to create parts with a very specific shape. This includes tubes of various shapes, such as squares, rectangles, and profiles with different open cross-sections (e.g H, L and Tcross-sections).
